In 2018, journalist Andreas Sator launched the podcast Erklär mir die Welt (Explain the World to Me). In Austria, it was one of the first with a fully independent journalistic approach. Sator has built a journalistic biotope with other projects around it. Now, with around 29,000 downloads per week (2023), Erklär mir die Welt is one of the largest podcasts in Austria. Each week, an expert discusses with Sator a socially relevant topic – e. g. climate protection, the legal system, outer space, or gender issues. Since 2019 Durchblick is a science podcast at the daily tabloid Blick. Due to the fact that there were hardly any long-lasting science podcasts in Switzerland before, this innovation filled a niche that was previously unoccupied. Durchblick wants to answer science-related questions that have always been on people’s minds. In the beginning the production was done by an external organization then it switched to in-house production.
