Since 2020, krone.tv has been the TV station of the Kronen Zeitung, Austria’s widest-reach daily newspaper founded in 1959. It took the opposite approach of many linear TV stations that go digital: Starting from the previously existing krone.at website with video content, they applied for a linear license. Main motives were the idea to cover sports events themselves (instead of paying license fees), and the conviction that the significance of moving images is still only recognized with the operation of a linear TV channel also.
